My first experience with UCI Medical Center and the G. H. Eye Institute has been outstanding. Everyone, from the parking valet to the medical staff, was kind and empathetic. The medical professionals are incredibly talented and highly skilled surgeons. Dr. M. Mehta repaired my detached retina with the expertise and precision of a world-class surgeon. During a follow-up examination, I met Dr. Chen, who exemplifies the professionalism and talent I have consistently found throughout the UCI Medical campus. He reviewed the operation with me, examined my eye, and clearly and concisely explained my progress. He reassured me that everything was going well and that I was on the mend.

I want to highly recommend Dr. Matthew Wade at UCI Health Gavin Herbert Eye Institute. He is an amazing surgeon and a wonderful, caring doctor. I was referred to Dr. Wade after botched cataract surgery on my left eye. The ophthalmologist who operated on me broke the capsular bag and the lens was drifting. She told me that I should learn to live with the results, which included double vision, ghost images and blurring. She also said corrective surgery was too risky. I went to another ophthalmologist who referred me to Dr. Wade. Dr. Wade told me he could do lens exchange surgery and help me. He was so calm and kind, he reassured me every step of the way. I have complete confidence in his care. The surgery was successful, and my double vision, ghost images and blurring are gone. I can't say enough about how expert, kind and caring Dr. Wade is. I feel that he changed my life and gave me the chance to see normally again. I will be forever grateful to him and just wish I could give him ten stars.

I was referred by my retina specialist to Dr. Kapil Mishra to repair a 3rd retina detachment. I found Dr. Mishra to be extremely kind, positive and professional. The staff is also extremely supportive and we found the entire process from check in, to scans, and consultation to move in a timely manner.
Surgery at the GHEI Surgery Center was also a very positive experience. The nurses are all exceptional, caring, respectful and highly skilled.
I would most certainly highly recommend Dr. Mishra, an UCI Gavin Herbert Eye Institute.

Do not go here. I went to get a pretty routine eye exam and was told it would cost around $125 total and was charged a copay of $25. Months later, and right after they got me to come in for a follow up appointment, I received a surprise bill in the mail for not just the remaining $100 but an additional $739 physicians fee for "45 min or more" of "medical decision making". Not only was this bafflingly high, the ophthalmologist probably saw me for ten minutes max. I called their billing department and was basically told since they only verbally told me it would be around $125 tough shit, pay us.

Update: I later found out that they billed my exam as an ER visit, causing my insurance to refuse payment for services that would otherwise be covered. Who schedules an ER visit weeks out? Still has not been resolved.

This review rating is strictly for the particular doctor (B. Kupperman) rather than the staff. I have seen this same doc for several years now. Every appointment involves hours of waiting. He always says some "emergency" came up that he was dealing with extra cases and therefore got late. This is understandable. For this year's check up, I requested and got the very first appointment at 7:30am. I showed up at 7:20 am. After the preliminaries were performed with utmost professionalism by the staff, I proceeded to wait...and wait...and wait...At 8:45 am I went out of the exam room and told a staff that my appointment was for 7:30 and I was still waiting. She said, Oh, he hasn't come in yet. He sees patients within 2-3 hours of appointment time. So I left. One star is one too many for this doc. and for the institution that tolerates such behavior.

Dr Mosaed, my glaucoma ophthalmologist is the finest, most knowledgeable and kindest glaucoma specialist. She has graciously cared for our family's ophthalmic needs for over decades. It is an exceptional privilege to be under Dr Mosaed's ophthalmic care!
